Electrics

One Day Workshop

The Basics Electrics day workshop is designed to de-mystify electrics for the householder.

·         Firstly, participants will be taught the fundamental rules of safety – which is paramount when dealing with electricity!

·         The component parts of an electrical installation, that may be seen around the house, will be identified and their purpose explained.

·         Learners will gain a concept of how electricity gets from the power station into their sockets and light bulbs.

·         They will learn what they need to ask an electrician they may be considering employing, as well as when they don’t need to employ one.

·         The regulations regarding working on domestic electrical installations will be simplified and put into a nutshell, so that it is clear what the untrained may safely attempt themselves.

·         Learners will get practical hands on experience of wiring a plug and changing a pendant light fitting.

The following video was made by the Which? Local team at the Women’s Construction Centre in Sheffield.

As the winner of the Which? Local Business of the Year award 2011, Which? asked WiCAT Member Mandy to help with some short films so that their members could learn how to be safe and sound when it comes to their home electrics.

If you would like to learn more, for example: what you are and are not allowed to do in your home without being a qualified electrician, as well as the basic ins and outs of home electrics, please do not hesitate to contact WiCAT for further information on the Basic Electrics Course.

Here is just a taster of what you will learn on the course.
